English preparation guide
Leben in Deutschland Test Preparation in English
The official test questions are in German. English explanations can help you understand the concepts, but your practice should gradually shift toward the German wording used in the exam.
Test format
The test paper has 33 multiple-choice questions: 30 general questions and 3 questions about your registered federal state. BAMF states that you have 60 minutes. At least 17 correct answers are needed for the naturalisation knowledge certificate.
A bilingual study method
First read an English explanation to understand the idea. Then return to the German question and identify its key terms. Finish each study session with German-only questions so translation does not become a crutch.
Use official information for decisions
This independent site is not BAMF and cannot advise on your individual immigration or naturalisation case. Check registration and eligibility questions with the responsible authority or test centre.
